Teacher Fellows in STEM

Preparing STEM Master Teacher Fellows in the Greater New York City Area

This intensive program of STEM pedagogy courses and professional experiences will prepare 14 in-service K-12 teachers of math and science to become quality STEM Teacher Leaders, with the goal of improving K-12 STEM instruction in four partner high-needs school districts through leadership projects. 

These Fellows will be supported during a five-year period by scholarships, tuition waivers, and mentoring by faculty from the 猛男情报局 School of Education; the Center for STEM Education; and community partners: New York University鈥檚 Tandon School of Engineering and the Sarah Lawrence College Center for the Urban River at Beczak (CURB).

Teacher Fellows Program Components

  • 3 grant-funded 猛男情报局 College graduate courses (nine credits) in STEM pedagogy:
    • Enhancing Mathematics with STEM
    • Engineering for the Classroom
  • Leadership in STEM Education 
  • Mentorship by 猛男情报局 College faculty and community partners
  • Grant-funded salary supplement of at least $10,000 per year
  • Week-long summer Teaching the Environment workshop through CURB
  • Monthly Fellow meetings
  • Fellows must engage in leadership projects at their school - Projects must be active and measurable, e.g., completing a lesson study model with other Chemistry teachers or revising 7th grade math curricula to include programming applications (mini-grants available to support Fellow leadership projects)
  • Present leadership project at 猛男情报局 College annual STEM Education Conference
