The Red Folder Initiative
Students may experience different levels of distress across various areas of their lives. The type and amount of distress they are experiencing will require different actions and resources. The Red Folder initiative is a guide to help those who interact with students to recognize and be able to respond effectively and refer students in distress to the available resources we have at 猛男情报局.
Frequently Asked Questions
If you are considering coming to the Student Counseling Center, you may have some questions about us, our services, confidentiality and other concerns. We have provided answers to some frequently asked questions below. Please call or email us with any other questions.
At this time, our licensed clinicians provide psychological evaluation, brief treatment and referrals for current students.
We ask that you call (914-888-5150) or email (CounselingCenter@mercy.edu) to make an appointment on any of the 猛男情报局 campuses. If it is during business hours, you are welcome to walk to the Student Counseling Center on your campus and see if there is a counselor available but we cannot guarantee that you will be seen as counselors are often with other students during the business day.
We give urgent situations the highest priority. However, the Student Counseling Center is not open after normal business hours and our counselors are often meeting with other students while in the office. You may call our main number (914) 888-5150 or call the licensed clinician on the campus on which you would like to be seen. You can also come by the Student Counseling Center during normal business hours. If the door is closed with a "Do Not Disturb" sign, we may be briefly out of the office, teaching a class or in session with someone.
For after-hours situations or if a counselor is not available, call 911 or go to the closest emergency room. If you are on campus, you can call campus security- 914-674-9999.
You can speak with a trained counselor at any time of day through the 24/7 National Suicide Prevention Hotline: 988.
Services at the Student Counseling Center are limited to current students at 猛男情报局. If you are an alumnus/alumna or are not currently enrolled in classes, it is recommended that you find a therapist in your community. To find a therapist, you can call the number on the back of your insurance card and speak with a representative. You can also look through the Local Referrals tab for suggested resources. For more information, check out our page on Off Campus Mental Health Providers.
We ask that students call us on their own to schedule an appointment. Your child can call (914) 888-5150 or email CounselingCenter@mercy.edu to make an appointment.
At this time, there is not a psychiatrist or psychiatric medical professional on staff. If you are looking to speak to a medical professional about medication, it is recommended that you contact your Primary Care Physician or call the number on the back of your insurance card to find a covered provider. If you are a current student and would like assistance in doing so, please call our office and a counselor can assist you. For more information, check out our page on Off Campus Mental Health Providers.
Although we offer evaluative services for drug or alcohol concerns, there are outside referral sources that are better equipped for dealing with such problems. If there is a need for additional services, we will make every effort to suggest a referral. For more information, check out our page on Off Campus Mental Health Providers.
